Brain Fog is…

Below is a short list of some examples of the things that I have done because of brain fog. It is not a complete list. It is just some of my best and most dynamic examples. This is my best way of trying to communicate by example how this experience is different than just normal forgetfulness or absent-mindedness

Brain Fog is…

Forgetting how to walk your dog.

Not recognizing your own car.

Repeatedly forgetting if you fed the dog.

Staring at the opened blinds and not remembering that you opened them.

Swearing that you typed an R but looking back at the letter and seeing that it says “P.”

Swearing that instructions said to microwave for 6 minutes and having absolutely no idea why you burned the food until weeks later when you buy the exact same thing and realize that the instructions say microwave for 2 minutes.

Looking at a road that you have been on a million times and suddenly not recognizing it.

Accidentally washing your tv remote.

Writing something down and immediately forgetting that you wrote it down.

Forgetting a name for 3 weeks.

Forgetting words like “toothbrush” and “crockpot” for weeks.

Putting food in the microwave. Walking out of the room. Walking back in and opening the toaster oven instead of the microwave.

Going to the doctor’s office in house shoes.

Repeatedly saying the wrong answer even though you know it’s the wrong answer.

Twice having my whole brain go completely blank and forgetting who I am and where I am.

These are just some examples of things that have happened to me. Luckily, most of these things happened months ago. Unfortunately, something like this still happens to me basically everyday.

Please believe survivors when they tell you that something is wrong. It is not normal and it is more than just normal forgetfulness.
