Realities of the Virus: Reinfection is Real

I have been super ill for several days now. My menses are still wreaking catastrophic effects on me ever since I contracted covid. Pain everywhere; nausea; worsened fatigue. Some of the worst pain in my life. I almost called an ambulance for myself and nearly passed out at one point from the pain. I mentioned these issues before in a previous post.

I’m still in pain. But, I am thankfully starting to come around and I think better days may be ahead as I received several pieces of good news recently. I’ll talk more about that in a later post.

Today, I want to start on my next series of posts. I want to focus on some truths that those in survivor groups know. I want to do my small part to try to spread this information to the general public.

I’m also planning to add more posts from other survivors to my gallery. I want it to be understood that these aren’t just words that I’m saying. This is what real people are going through.

These posts aren’t meant to depress those who are doing everything they can and are feeling the tremendous weight of all that we have lost.

Mostly, I am doing this for the history books. My hope is that the reality of this time will not get whitewashed or sanitized and the guilty will not escape judgment.

When I say “guilty,” I speak of all of those still attempting to deny and downplay the virus and the myriad of damage that it causes. All of those who made the decisions that forced normal people into danger and all of those who defend them. The cultivators of misinformation and those who callously spread it.

I know most of those people won’t read this. But, I pray that history won’t forget and that the truth won’t be hidden. The truth needs to be known and needs to be spread.

It’s the only way I know on how to fight against the rampant spread of misinformation.

My first topic is about reinfection and the vaccine. Reinfection is real and it is part of the reason why people need to get the vaccine.

Yes, survivors who previously had the disease and then started to feel better and got a negative test have been re-infected and gotten sick all over again, sometimes worse. Sometimes, the second time is fatal.

From all that I have read and come to understand about the disease, there is no evidence that herd immunity will ever be gained just through the process of people getting sick and getting better.

The reinfections are actually evidence to the contrary. This means that vaccination is our best option for eventually getting to the point where we have heard immunity and people stop getting sick and dying.

We need to care enough about each other to take this important step.
